Overview

Deep6 AI needed a Design System to improve the UX across its web applications. The goal was to create a foundation that improved consistency in elements and interactions that also aligned with the company's mission of helping healthcare organizations find patients for clinical trials.

Creating a Design Framework

Deep6 AI needed a comprehensive Design System to bring consistency to their web applications, which served healthcare organizations in finding appropriate patients for clinical trials. The challenge was to create a system that would streamline design processes while ensuring usability for end-users, mainly healthcare professionals.

The existing design processes lacked standardization, resulting in varied user experiences across products. This inconsistency hindered usability and slowed down the design and development cycles, creating frustration among team members and users alike.

The absence of a cohesive design language meant that each new feature was developed in isolation, leading to confusion among users and inefficiencies in the design workflow. Establishing a unified design framework was crucial for enhancing the overall user experience and ensuring the effectiveness of Deep6 AI’s innovative solutions.

We faced the challenge of creating a consistent design language in an environment where each product was developed independently, leading to a fragmented user experience.

Designing for Consistency and Usability

As the Lead UX Product Designer, my task was to develop a comprehensive Design System from scratch that would improve consistency across Deep6 AI’s web apps. This included making guidelines that addressed typography, color schemes, buttons, forms, and interaction patterns.

I focused on creating a cohesive design language that would enhance the usability of the platform while aligning with brand standards. By prioritizing essential components, I aimed to develop a Design System that could streamline the design process and facilitate collaboration among team members.

The primary task was to conduct an audit of existing design assets and identify areas that needed standardization. Collaborating with cross-functional teams was essential to gather insights and understand the unique requirements of healthcare professionals.

My task was to ensure that the Design System not only addressed the needs of the development team but also improved the user experience for healthcare professionals interacting with our AI platform.

Collaborative Process

To initiate the Design System, I conducted a thorough audit of existing design assets and gathered input from users and stakeholders. This research informed the creation of design guidelines and documentation that detailed best practices.

I worked closely with product managers, developers, and other designers to identify key components and design patterns that would serve as the foundation for the system. This collaboration ensured that the Design System was user-centered and aligned with business goals.

I created a library of reusable components that encompassed typography, color schemes, buttons, form elements, and interaction patterns. The design guidelines included usage rules, accessibility considerations, and examples to facilitate implementation across different teams and projects.

My approach was to foster a collaborative environment where all team members could contribute to the Design System, ensuring it met both user needs and business objectives.

The implementation of the Design System led to a more efficient design and development process, reducing the time spent on creating new features. It also improved collaboration among teams, fostering a shared understanding of design principles.

Monitoring the impact of the Design System involved tracking key metrics related to adoption, efficiency, and user satisfaction. The initiative aimed to enhance consistency in design while addressing any challenges that emerged during the implementation phase.

Metrics were used to gauge the effectiveness of the Design System, including the number of components created, user feedback on usability, and improvements in design cycle time. Continuous evaluation ensured that the Design System met the evolving needs of the team and users, allowing for adjustments as necessary.

The Design System not only transformed our design process but also significantly enhanced the user experience, allowing us to better serve healthcare organizations in their critical missions.
